News - Chesterfield County Business Watch Program

10/03/2006

The Chesterfield County Police Department offers various programs and services to the Chesterfield County business community. The Crime Prevention Section is committed to reaching out to businesses by consulting with them on security measures and by providing crime prevention training.

The following services and programs are offered through the Crime Prevention Section:
  • FAX/e-mail alert system - Business Watch members receive bi-monthly crime summaries via fax or e-mail. These summaries provide information regarding current crime trends in Chesterfield County, where crime is occurring, and crime prevention tips on making your business safe. Alerts are also sent out when specific crimes are occurring or particular businesses are being targeted. Suspect information is often given along with any other information that might be beneficial.

  • Security Assessments - Businesses are given the opportunity to have an Armor Security Assessment performed. Physical security, both exterior and interior, current work procedures, and written policies are reviewed and recommendations are made through a written report that is provided. Each assessment offers the business owner possible solutions to current issues and direction regarding future practices that may need to be implemented.

  • Robbery Training - Many businesses have no formal robbery training for their employees. This becomes very apparent if a robbery occurs and employees have no idea of what to do. We offer robbery training for any type of business. This provides a sense of knowledge and security for both the business owner and the employees.

  • Workplace Violence - Current statistics show that more women are murdered at the workplace than anywhere else. There has been a steady increase in violent incidents occurring in the workplace in recent years. This program offers information on recognizing potentially dangerous behavior, risky work practices, the effects of workplace violence, policies and procedures regarding workplace violence, and reporting incidents to the police.

  • Personal Safety - This program emphasizes awareness techniques that help prevent attacks on an individual when they are out and about. The goals of the program include: prevention, reducing bodily injury, survival techniques, and reporting incidents to the police.

  • Credit Card/Check Fraud - This program deals with recognizing fraudulent, counterfeit, altered, forged checks, and credit cards. Recommendations are also presented to prevent refund fraud and quick change fraud.
Each year many crimes are committed in Chesterfield County that could have been prevented. By becoming a part of the business watch program you will receive crime summaries that keep you up to date on specific crimes and crime trends occurring in the county. You are also kept up to date on training opportunities and the latest in crime prevention techniques. Joining is free and easy.
